The House that Jack built

The House that Jack Built

The House that Jack Built was built in 1964 by Richard Carmichael’s father, Professor Jack Burbidge. The material for building was carried up the hill on donkeys as there was, and still is, such a steep street to our upper part of Bellapais village. The House that Jack Built sits amid a beautiful garden and is the central house to our micro resort. The house is linked to the Mountain Villa but is totally self-contained and can be used completely separately from both it and the Riverside cottage below. The house has three bedrooms. There is a king size bedroom and a twin bedded room upstairs, both with fantastic views from their windows and from the covered arched terrace and open roof terrace adjoining. On the bottom floor there is the original donkey stable – now a comfortable bedroom with two single beds, en suite bathroom and private covered terrace. The bathroom on the ground floor is a 1960’s style with shower over bath on the middle living floor level. The fitted kitchen has a giant fridge freezer, gas cooker and three serving hatches to the garden, the sunny northern balcony and into the dining room itself. The gardens are a riot of colour all year round colour with a cool shady stone seat corner and a second very small pool, which without filtration equipment is used only available when irrigation water supplies are sufficient to allow emptying once a week on the gardens.
